Pulisic injury status unclear ahead of Canada match

The Chelsea star will undergo a new fitness test ahead of USMNT’s next World Cup qualifier.

U.S. men's national team will face Canada in their next World Cup qualifying match on Monday. However, the injury status of one of their key players is still unclear.

Christian Pulisic

missed his side’s clash against El Salvador on Thursday, which ended in a goalless draw. The Chelsea star tested positive for COVID-19 on August 20, but he is yet to fully recover from the disease.

USMNT manager

Gregg Berhalter

says Pulisic will undergo a final test before his side’s game against Canada.

"Christian is going to have another evaluation today,"

Berhalter said.

"He's made some progress, and we have to see if it's enough to actually include him in the gameday squad and play.

"Zack is going to remain out for the game."

Matt Turner

is set to replace Pulisic in the national team’s lineup.

Berhalter added:

"We've been getting him up to speed with training," Berhalter added. "We're trying to see what he can tolerate, see what type of workloads he can do and I think that's the first step.”

Pulisic tested negative for COVID-19 before his travel from London, but he is yet to regain full fitness.

"To be out for 10 days and have Covid isn't the easiest thing to get over, so, for us, it's about really seeing how he can come back in a safe way. That's the most important thing.

"When we've been having conversations, we've been asking him about how he's tolerating loads and everything, so we'll see if he's ready."

Following their match against Canada, USMNT will continue their World Cup qualifying campaign with a match against Honduras on September 9.
