Barcelona preparing a January move for Leipzig’s Olmo

Since his €22.00m arrival in January 2020 from Dinamo Zagreb, the Spaniard helped RB Leipzig into a maiden Champions League semi-final appearance as well as becoming a regular starter for Spain.

The La Masia graduate surprisingly left Barcelona in 2014 to move to Zagreb and has been

previously linked with a summer reunion

 with the Blaugrana.

Now according to

Mundo Deportivo

, the Catalan giants engaged in talks with Leipzig late on in the summer transfer window to bring Olmo back to Spain this summer.

The outlet reports that Olmo has agreed on a five-year contract with Barcelona despite two clubs were unable to settle on a fee before the transfer deadline.

Olmo will now reportedly be Barça's priority signing in 2022.

After a complete overhaul of their squad

, the club look to piece themselves back together.

The highest-profile departure of Barcelona was undoubtedly

Lionel Messi

, who Barça were forced to release after it became apparent that they could not comply with La Liga's salary cap were he to stay.

In addition to the departure of many high-earners, several senior first team players, including Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, have also taken significant pay cuts to get rid of the Catalans’ Covid-related financial struggles. Hence, Barca’s summer signings Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, and Sergio Aguero, who all arrived on free transfers, registered to play.
