Liverpool sporting director has had a good era with the team.

Despite rumors of a possible departure from

sporting director Michael Edwards, the club is confident of his future.

Edwards' contract expires next summer and The Athletic reports that he has announced to the club that he intends to leave. Club sources, however, are confident that he will continue to be present and negotiations will go on with him, while Liverpool have no intention of allowing him to leave and are willing to work with him beyond 2022.

Edwards was added to the club in 2011 by former Liverpool manager Damien Comolli. He had previously worked with Comolli at Tottenham and they performed well together.

In November 2016, shortly after Comolli's departure, Edwards was appointed Liverpool sporting director, which was welcomed by Mike Gordon and Jürgen Klopp. Since then, Liverpool has become one of the top clubs in Europe, winning the Champions League, the Premier League, the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup. Many consider Edwards to be one of the key factors in Liverpool's success due to the acquisition of players such as Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Alison Becker and Fabinho.

In 2015, he was one of the main factors in attracting Roberto Firmino.
