The Portuguese center back has earned an improved deal that runs until 2027.
Following his £65 million deal from Benfica last season,Ruben Dias
quickly established himself as a key player for Manchester City. The sensational debut campaign has earned a new contract for the Portuguese star, only 11 months after his first deal.
on Monday that an agreement has been reached with Dias over a renewed contract. The center-back, who has featured in 50 matches for Pep Guardiola’s side, has signed an improved contract that runs until 2027. Dias’ former contract was set to expire in 2026, but the defender’s impressive performances last season have persuaded City to keep him for a longer period.
“I’m very happy to sign the new deal. I have enjoyed every single minute of my time at City since joining last year,"
the 24-year-old said.
“Playing for City has surpassed all my expectations and it’s an absolute pleasure to be part of such an incredible squad.
“I would also like to thank Pep and the coaching staff for the way they have helped me to develop as a player and keep pushing me to improve.
“To be part of the squad that achieved so much last season was incredible and made us all hungry to achieve even more. Now I just want to try and play my part in helping us be successful this season and beyond.”
Dias formed an outstanding partnership alongside John Stones at the heart of City’s backline last season. The Citizens won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final, where they were beaten by Chelsea.
“Although he only joined us less than a year ago, in that time Ruben has already proved to be such a vital part of our squad,"
City's director of football Txiki Begiristain said.
“It tells you everything about his quality and importance to the club that we wanted to recognise his impact with this new contract.
“He is everything you would want in a central defender and so much more and he will be a big part of our drive to bring even more success to the club over the next few years.”
John Stones alsoextended
his contract at Manchester City earlier this month as the English side seem to be confident about their defensive form.
Following their crushing 5-0 victory over Arsenal, the Citizens will continue their Premier League campaign with a match against Leicester City on September 11.
