Corinthians in talks with Arsenal to sign Willian
Brazilian side Corinthians have reportedly opened talks with Arsenal over a deal to sign Willian.
Willian
started his career at
Corinthians, based in Sao Paulo, and is interested in leaving
Arsenaland making a return.
The Brazilian striker joined Arsenal from
Chelsealast summer, agreeing to a three-year deal with the Gunners, but he seems to have no place in
Mikel Arteta
’s plans as he is trying to rebuild the squad with younger players.
The 33-year old still has two years remaining on his Arsenal contract, but Corinthians are hoping to sign the winger on a free transfer.
Italian journalist
Fabrizio Romano
reported that Brazilian side Corinthians were hoping to take the player back home, saying
: “Corinthians have made an official bid to Willian, confirmed. He wants to leave Arsenal since May and he’s now considering Corinthians proposal."
Arsenal are ready to offload the Brazilian, who scored only one goal in 37 appearances for the club, in order to get his wages off the club's books.
Willian could be one of a number of players to depart the club before the window shuts, with

There is no deal in place yet but both parties are hopeful an agreement can be reached before the transfer window deadline.
