was abandoned because of a fight between the fans, the players, and the staff. The trouble started when Dimitri Payet was getting ready to take a corner, and Nice fans hit him with a projectile, and he reacted to that by throwing a bottle back at them, and that was when the crowd attacked the field, and teammates and the staff were engaged.

The referee decided to suspend the game initially, but Marseille players refused to get back to the pitch as they already had two players injured.

Now Ligue 1 has asked both sides to come to a meeting after publishing a statement against the violent incidents of the game, which wasn’t even completed after a 90-minute suspension.

The first reaction to the Nice fans’ behavior from the local police was to announce that anti-projectile fencing is going to be installed in front of the place is known for being the stand of Nice's vocal band of ultras as soon as possible.

The Mayor of the city has also talked about the matter, insisting that the fans’ behavior was unacceptable.

“This violence is intolerable,”

Christian Estrosi wrote on Twitter.

“Sanctions must be taken by the LFP [Ligue 1 governing body] after determining responsibility. If the behavior of certain supporters is unacceptable, so too was that of the Marseille president [Pablo Longoria] in the stands, and also that of the coach [Sampaoli] on the field.

“I want to salute the impeccable behavior of the players and coach of OGC Nice. It is now up to the authorities to make the necessary decisions.”
