Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini admits his side did not deserve the last-gasp 2-1 victory over Torino in their Serie A opener on Saturday.
Luis Muriel
, who was only outscored by
Cristiano Ronaldo
and
Romelu Lukaku
in Serie A last season, opened the scoring after six minutes.
However,
Torinocaptain
Andrea Belotti
came off the bench to score the equalizer in the 79th minute, after his long-range strike deflected over
Atalantagoalkeeper
Juan Musso
.
Then young substitute
Roberto Piccoli
, who spent last season on loan at
Spezia, struck deep into stoppage time to earn Atalanta a last-gasp 2-1 victory against Torino.
Despite the victory, Gasperini was not satisfied with his side’s performance and confessed they did not deserve this narrow win.
“We did not deserve to win that game,”
confessed
Gasperini
to DAZN
.
“It is very satisfying to win it at the death, but we need to get some players back in shape and really need a better performance in future.
“We were really lucky tonight, it was a difficult match. Our whole performance was below par, Torino were more reactive on the second ball every time.
“Even on a physical level, we didn’t hold out well enough against them, we were shoved off the ball too easily.
