Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard has hit out at criticism he received from Spanish media after he joined the Gunners on a permanent basis on Friday.

Arsenal have completed the £30 million signing of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid after the Norwegian spent a successful loan spell in the second half of last season at the Emirates.

Odegaard

Mikel Arteta

’s eye during his time in England and the Gunners’ boss was determined to bring in the playmaker.

However,

Real Madrid

's newly-appointed boss

Carlo Ancelotti

insisted he wanted Odegaard as part of his first-team plans.

Marca

wrote an article about the 22-year-old following his move to

Arsenal

, describing him as 'an economic bonanza but a sporting failure'.

The 22-year-old was unhappy with his representation in the Spanish press and hit back at criticism of his transfer choices in a post on his Instagram account.

“I am grateful to have got the opportunity to learn from the best in the world and my idols”,

as per an Instagram post reported via the

Daily Mail

.

“However, these days a lot has been said about me and my motivations for leaving. I want to say that almost everything that has been said is not true.

‘It’s a real shame the press say things that aren’t true, because many people sincerely think that’s how it is.

‘I have my reasons, I know what the truth is and what happened and that’s why I think this (leaving Madrid) is for the best.”

Odegaard signed a four-year contract at Arsenal, until the end of the 2024/25 season.
