The Portuguese defender will stay at Manchester City for another 5 years.

Manchester City

are trying to extend the contract of defender Ruben Dias after a year in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old defender was added to Pep Guardiola's squad last season and performed so well on the defensive line that the Premier League champions conceded just 32 goals in 38 games. He was one of City's best this season and the club intends to extend his contract just one year after his previous contract.

Under the new contract, Diaz will be at Manchester City until 2026 and his salary will increase. He receives £90,000 a week, which is almost double the salary he received at Benfica. England defender John Stones has also extended his contract with the club, earning him € 250,000 a week.

Guardiola is trying to maintain and improve the conditions of his team's defensive line by maintaining his team's defensive elements and increasing salaries, and he will be able to try to win the league next season.
