Mon 16 August 2021 | 10:53

The Manchester United midfielder used the France international’s assists against Leeds United and believes he could break records.

Paul Pogba

contributed four assists in

Manchester United

’s thumping 5-1 victory over

Leeds United

, but

Bruno Fernandes

thinks the Frenchman can provide “five or six in one game”.

It will be a record in the Premier League, and the France international revealed his intentions for the 2021-22 season, laying down an early marker for the remainder of the league.

The 28-year-old was unplayable during the clash against Leeds as he helped Fernandes score a hat-trick at Old Trafford.

Fernandes told MUTV of an outstanding performance from Pogba on the opening weekend:

"Amazing.

"He’s doing really well and he’s such a big player. Everybody knows that and I hope he can keep getting better and better, because I think he can still do so much more.

"I’m pretty sure Paul could do five or six [assists] in one game.

"Paul is a quality player; we all trust him, we all know his qualities. The point is making those performances and to help the team do better and I’m pretty sure Paul is here to do that."

Should the Red Devils help Pogba be consistent, then he may play a key role in their fight for the title this season.

However, there are speculations regarding his future at the club as he is now in the final year of his contract and they have yet to agree with an extension with their £89 million ($123m) asset.

United manager

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

is hoping fans’ return will persuade the Frenchman to remain put, saying:

"The last 18 months have been strange, the only interaction have been through media, you have watched the games on telly so to be reunited with the fans like Paul and Bruno is important, this is the real Man Utd, this is how I sold Man Utd to Edinson [Cavani], you can't leave after one season with no fans.

"Will it help persuade him? In short: yes."
