The PSG winger has spoken about Messi’s arrival, Cristiano Ronaldo, and the GOAT debate in a controversial interview.
Lionel Messi signed a two-yeardeal
at Parc des Princes last week. The Argentinian superstar joins a host of top-class players, who form one of the best squads in European football. Messi is expected to shape an attacking trio alongside Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar, with the likes of Angel Di Maria and Mauro Icardi being available as backup options.
In a new interview with
, Di Maria expressed his excitement over Messi’s arrival and said Ronaldo would love to join such a high-quality squad.
"Cristiano must want to kill himself for not being here [at PSG],"
"The quality and quantity of players that PSG have now is unique. It doesn't often happen at clubs and the great players always want to be with the best.
"Cristiano surely wants to be here, but they brought Messi and luckily he's much better."
Asked about the comparisons between Messi and Ronaldo, Di Maria responded:
"For me, honestly it's very easy to play with him [Messi]. If you run, he passes the ball to you and it falls at your feet," he explained.
"There are no excuses for anything. I have an excellent relationship with him on and off the pitch. It's easy to see what he wants.
"Messi is from another world. You kick a stone at him and he stops it, he passes you like it's nothing, he thinks before the other guy. I've never seen anything like it.
"I played with Cristiano, Neymar, [Kylian] Mbappe, [Wayne] Rooney, [Robin] Van Persie, [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, [Karim] Benzema, [Gareth] Bale and honestly I've never seen anything like it. He's unique, Leo.
"I think Messi will feel better here than in Catalonia. With the reception he received in Paris, I think he already realised what he brings, what he does and what he is.
"The people here are going to show him that in every training session and in every game. Because of him there are now 200 people outside every time we go out."
Sergio Aguero joined Barcelona this summer with hopes of playing alongside his friend Messi. According to Di Maria, the departure of Messi from Barcelona has been disappointing for the former Manchester City striker.
"Kun wants to kill himself, what can you do,"
Di Maria said with a laugh.
"Apart from all that [Messi leaving Barcelona], the worst thing is that he got injured again and will be out for several weeks. That's the saddest thing."
PSG will play their next league match againstStrasbourg
on Sunday. Mauricio Pochettino must decide whether he wants to include Messi in the lineup for his side’s upcoming game.
