Andrew Robertson: Liverpool left-back set for ankle scan on Monday

Liverpool have confirmed that Andrew Robertson will undergo a scan on Monday to determine the extent of the ankle injury he picked up during his side’s friendly against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

The Scotland left-back limped off the pitch with the help of the medical team before the break after he rolled his ankle in a duel to stop a cross by Alex Berenguer.

The injury happens less than a week before

Liverpool

open the league against

Norwich

. The extent of the damage is uncertain and

Jurgen Klopp

will have to wait for the scan result to learn the severity of the injury.

"We obviously don't know in the moment how serious it is. It was pretty painful and that's why Andy went off,"

Klopp said

.

"You probably saw it on the TV pictures better than we did, but he got the ball, the ball on the front of his foot, [and] twisted the ankle.

"The pain settled already, but we cannot say anything further without further assessment tomorrow. He has to get a scan and then we will know more."

Robertson posted on his Twitter

: "Your support today was amazing! Thank you for all your messages, I'm positive but let's see what tomorrow brings! #YNWA"

The Reds may have to make their first activity in the transfer market after Klopp refused to make any major signings in the transfer window other than

Ibrahima Konate

, who joined the club from RB Leipzig with a deal that was finished before the end of the last season.

Klopp:

"I am very happy with the squad I have. You can't sign counter-pressing, the atmosphere, our anthem... There are different approaches out there, but we have no influence on that.

"There might still be something happening before the end of the transfer window."
