The Nice coach praised the French striker after his side’s draw against Milan.

AC Milan were held to a 1-1 draw in their pre-season friendly against

Nice

on Saturday.

Amine Gouiri

opened the scoring for the French side just before the hour mark, but a header from

Olivier Giroud

equalized the game for the Rossoneri.

In a post-match interview,

Christophe Galtier

spoke about his side’s performance against the Italian giants.

“We faced an opponent of great quality, even if they were not at their best, a team that finished second in the league,”

he told

Milan TV

.

“We improved in intensity and pace compared to the previous friendlies. There was a desire and enthusiasm.”

The French coach praised Giroud for his impressive performance.

“I’m sorry for the goal, because it’s the third one we concede in this pre-season period, but it’s not easy to contain a great player like Olivier Giroud, who is a formidable header.”

Galtier won the Ligue 1 title with

Lille

last season. Having joined Nice in June, the 54-year-old is preparing the Eaglets for their upcoming Ligue 1 campaign.

“There are some satisfying points, but also several things to improve,"

the French coach added.

"It was important to play at home with our fans and especially against a great team.

“It was an interesting game, obviously far from perfect, but since there’s progress from last time.”

Nice will start their 2021-22 Ligue 1 campaign with a match against Reims on August 8. Milan are set to continue their pre-season campaign with a friendly match against Valencia on Wednesday.
