Suni Lee wins a Gold medal for team USA in gymnastics

Suni Lee wins gold medal in Women’s individual all-around gymnastics for team USA.

Suni Lee

becomes the first Hmong American Olympics gold medalist as she wins the gold medal in the women’s individual all-around gymnastics in the absence of superstar gymnast Simone Biles. Biles, who was the reigning champion in the all-around competition and has been one of the best gymnasts in the world but she decided to withdraw from the tournament because she wanted to focus on her mental well-being, although she was cheering her 18-year-old teammate from the sidelines as she stepped up and filled her place in the best way possible.

Lee gained team USA’s fifth gold medal in a row in the all-around gymnastics, scoring 57.433 points, which were earned by pulling off a very difficult routine that gained 15.300 on the uneven bars, which beat all other competitors, a strong 14.600 on the vault, and 13.833 on the balance beam to grab the lead and win the gold medal.

The silver medal was given to Rebeca Andrade from Brazil, who had 57.298 and wasn’t away from Lee that much, and Angelina Melnikova from Russian Olympic Committee won the Bronze medal.

American athletes have been winning the competition’s gold medal since the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Biles won the gold medal in the 2016 Rio games, and before her, Gabby Douglas, Nastia Liukin, and Carly Patterson had earned the gold medal, which shows team USA’s domination in the individual all-around gymnastics.
