defender Dynel Simeu has left for Southampton for £1.5 million.

Reports indicate that the two clubs reached a final agreement last week for a permanent transfer, and now the transfer has been officially announced.

The 19-year-old defender, who is leaving the club after seven years at Chelsea, will travel to Southampton for three seasons and will be at St Mary until 2024.

Simeu grew up in Southampton before moving to west London and knows the area well. Now that he will be transferred to the club's B team, he expressed his happiness to be in his new team.

He told Southampton's website:

“I feel glad, finally, that the move was made possible. I'm just excited to get started.

“It's nice to be back home, I've had a really friendly welcome. I feel comfortable that I'm home with my family, so I'm excited.

“I hope to hit the ground running, get fit and comfortable with the boys and then hopefully push towards the first-team.”
