Chievo definitively excluded from Serie B & Cosenza takes their place
Chievo Verona has been permanently eliminated from Serie B for the 2021-22 season, thus branding them bankrupt, with Cosenza replacing their spot.
The Flying Donkeys had one more appeal to make, but it was also denied.
Before registering for the new season, every club in Italy must demonstrate its financial stability, reducing the chance of a team going bankrupt during the season.
Chievo was not permitted to register because they owed money to the government, and their pleas were all denied.
Rivals Hellas Verona dubbed them the Flying Donkeys, joking that when Chievo was in
Serie A, donkeys would fly.
They went on to participate in the UEFA Cup and even the Champions League initial round after that in 2001.
Last season, they finished eighth in the regular standings and advanced to the Serie B promotion play-offs.
Carpi, Novara, Sambenedettese, and Casertana were all left out of Serie C after failing to demonstrate their financial soundness.
Latina, Lucchese, Fidelis Andria, Rimini, and either Fano or Pistoiese have been endorsed to Serie C to fill in the gaps.
