Neymar and Barcelona’s legal dispute ends after four years

The long-lasting legal dispute between

Neymar

and Barcelona is now ended in “amicable fashion” after four years, according to the La Liga giants.

The Brazilian was in battle with the Blaugrana about his record-breaking transfer of €222 million (£200m/$262m) to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

The 29-year-old argued that the La Liga heavyweights owed him an unpaid signing bonus notwithstanding departing Camp Nou, which accused Barcelona of a breach of contract.

The Blaugrana have now stated on the club's official website:

"FC Barcelona announce that it has ended out of court in amicable fashion the various labour and civil litigation cases that were open with the Brazilian player Neymar da Silva Santos Junior. 

"As such, a transactional agreement between the club and the player has been signed to end the legal cases that were pending between the two parties: three claims related to labour and a civil case.

"Neymar was a Barca player between the seasons 2013-14 until 2016-17. Subsequently, he signed for Paris Saint-Germain, the club where he currently plays."

Neymar’s representatives claimed that during his move to France, the Brazilian should have been given a loyalty bonus included in his contract, which was around €43.6m (£39m/$51m).

Barcelona, on the other hand, were suing the PSG forward for a breach of contract. In 2020, the court ruled in favour of the Blaugrana, with Neymar having to pay them €6.7m (£6m/$8m) after losing his case.

With the case closed, both parties can now focus on the next campaign.
