Mertens to stay at Napoli next season before moving to the MLS

The Belgian forward is not going to make an appearance before October during his last season with Napoli and he is keen on making a move to the MLS in a year.

is in recovery after he sustained a shoulder injury and went under the knife. According to

, he has yet to begin rehabilitation.

Inter Miami

are interested in acquiring the

Napoli

striker and offer him a new challenge in America, but the reports claim that he will not be back in action before October.

He is going to miss the beginning two months of the next season and is aiming to spend just one more year with the Azzurri.

Il Mattino reports that the Belgium international wants to remain put at Stadio Diego Maradona for the next campaign before going to the USA.

Mertens’ contract will reach its end next summer, but his deal includes an option to extend for another year.

The 34-year-old joined the club in 2013 from PSV Eindhoven and has played in 360 matches for Napoli, meeting the back of the net 135 times and contributing 87 assists.
