, saying that the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is

in a position that he can ensure the No 10 shirt ‘won’t be touched’ by anybody at Camp Nou again.

He has been wearing that iconic jersey since getting it from the Brazilian superstar in 2008.

Ronaldinho, who was named World Player of the Year twice, is pleased to see the Argentine raising the bar and is hoping to see him sign a contract after the wage cap issue is ironed out.

Barca legend Ronaldinho, who played for the Blaugrana for five years, told

"He must stay, he is the history of Barca. When Messi retires, which I hope will be in a long time, he can leave the No 10 there and nobody will touch it again."

The 34-year-old is a free agent as his contract reached its end and he has yet to sign a new deal.

Barcelona have offered him a new contract but due to the financial struggles, they have yet to sign the deal.

The Blaugrana must reduce their wage cap in order to retain Messi’s services and register their new signings.

They are hoping to cash in on more players in the following weeks and have Messi in the team for the 2021-22 season.
