Germany vanquished Saudi Arabia 3-2 to keep their Olympics hopes alive notwithstanding having one player sent off.

Germany went against Saudi Arabia on Sunday, trying to bounce back from their 4-2 loss at the hands of Brazil on Thursday in their opening clash of the

Tokyo Olympics

, in which Richarlison scored a hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia were defeated 2-1 by the Ivory Coast, hoping to secure a place in the quarter-finals with a victory.

Each group’s top two teams will go to the next round, which is due to start in five days.

Nadiem Amiri

helped Germany take the lead only for Saudi Arabia to peg back with an equalizer scored by

Sami Al-Najei

in the 29

th

minute. However, Germany pushed to take the lead once again a few minutes before the end of the first half, when

Ragnar Ache

met the back of the net after Amos Pieper’s first attempt was blocked.

However, Saudi Arabia bounced back with their second equalizer to level the game courtesy of Al-Naji’s brace.

It was Germany though who found the target next as

Felix Uduokhai

rose highest to head home

Max Kruse

's corner, giving Germany their sealed victory with only fifteen minutes left on the clock.

Germany will face the Ivory Coast next and should they win that clash, they will secure their place in the quarter-finals.

Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, have reached the end of their Olympic journey after their back-to-back defeats, but they have one game in hand, taking on Brazil on Wednesday.
