Bayern Munich in talks with Barcelona over deal for Sergi Roberto

The Bundesliga giants are looking to sign a new right-back in the current transfer window.

Sergi Roberto

is among Barcelona players who have been linked with moves away from the Catalan club in recent weeks. The Spanish side are keen to reduce their wage bill ahead of the next season, while Bayern are looking to add a new right-back to their ranks.

According to

Goal and SPOX

, the Bavarians are in contact with Roberto’s representatives as they are interested in making a bid for the 29-year-old defender. Bayern have also considered making bids for

Emerson Royal

and

Sergino Dest

, but such moves are unlikely to happen.

Roberto’s current deal at Camp Nou will expire next summer, with Barcelona being determined to avoid a free departure. Transfer discussions between Bayern and Barcelona are reportedly boosted by their positive relationship after Philippe Coutinho’s loan deal in 2019-20.

Following Benjamin Pavard and Bouna Sarr’s underwhelming performances last season, Bayern are keen to add a new right-back to their squad. However, the German giants have been hit by the pandemic’s financial effects and they are leaning toward signing players who might be available for cheaper prices.

Roberto has been part of Barcelona’s first team since 2015-16. However, the Spaniard found himself down the pecking order upon the arrival of Sergino Dest last season. Barcelona signed Emerson from Real Betis last month, which might further push Roberto toward a move away from the Spanish side.
