Sun 18 July 2021 | 16:13

The Red Devils midfielder may stay at the club this season notwithstanding the lack of game time last season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

revealed that

Jesse Lingard

will remain put at

Manchester United

for the next campaign as he has impressed on his loan spell at

West Ham

. He also said that

Jadon Sancho

’s deal is on the verge of being completed.

The attacking midfielder had a crucial role in David Moyes’ ploys, having spent the second half of last season on a loan spell at West Ham as he was not getting enough game time at Old Trafford since Bruno Fernandes’ arrival.

Ahead of the next campaign, many clubs are eyeing the 28-year-old but Solskjaer said that the midfielder is part of his plans as they go forward.

Lingard featured in the second half of the Derby as they won 2-1 on Sunday.

He came seven or eight days later than the rest but he's a naturally fit boy. He's a man, he played with a few boys but he's one of the men,”

Solskjaer said.

“Jesse has come back, been bright, he wants to fight for his place and there's nothing better than seeing players want to fight for their place.

“What he did towards the end of last season, that's the true Jesse, that's what we know he's capable of and I think we saw towards the end that we lacked some options at times and Jesse is in the plans at the moment, yeah.”

West Ham wanted to make Lingard’s stay permanent but there was a wide distance between the demand and the offer.

United have also confirmed at the start of the month that Sancho will be joining the club and Solskjaer has provided an update on his arrival.

From what I understand only paperwork, small little details, hopefully we can announce something,”

Solskjaer said.

The supporters have shown their support after Marcus Rashford’s mural was defaced.

“Let's get all the paperwork done and get him over the line and then I can say what I truly feel about the player.”

Goal

reported that the club is trying to close the deal for Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.
