Ajax's captain Tadic extends his contract for 3 years

The Serbian star will stay in Amsterdam until the summer of 2024.

Ajax

captain Dusan Tadic has extended his contract with the club for another three years.

After returning to the Champions League, Milan were interested in signing the Serbian star and the conditions for his joining Serie A were provided. However, the 32-year-old midfielder decided to stay in Amsterdam and extended his contract for another three years. His previous contract expired in the summer of 2023 and had a one-year extension clause. By activating this clause, he will continue his presence in Ajax until the summer of 2024.

Tadic joined Ajax from Southampton in 2018 and was one of the team's key players in recent seasons as they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League. He scored 28 goals in the Eredivisie and 6 goals in the Champions League. Only Lionel Messi (12 goals) and Robert Lewandowski (8 goals) scored more goals than him in the 2018-19 Champions League, and he was in third place with four assists, after Kylian Mbappe and Jordi Alba. Also, no player managed to create more chances than him (37 chances) and the next player was Toni Kroos who created 8 chances less than him.

Ajax's director of football, Marc Overmars said:

"It is no secret that Dusan plays a very important role for the team.

"Both on and off the pitch, he is a real leader. So, it's fantastic that we can keep him at Ajax even longer."
