Wed 14 July 2021 | 19:13

AC Milan sporting director Paolo Maldini confirmed the imminent arrival of Olivier Giroud and revealed they decided to sign the French striker because of his experience.

The 34-year-old will sign a two-year deal for a reported fee of €2m with the Rossoneri and will be the starting striker while

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

is away with a knee injury.

The French striker is expected to arrive in Milan on Thursday but will do his medical on Friday.

Maldini

confirmed the news today on the sidelines of the evening of the presentation of the schedule for the next Serie A season.

“Yes, Olivier Giroud should arrive tomorrow. Olivier is a champion, he’s done great things with France and Chelsea,”

Maldini

told DAZN during the unveiling of the Serie A fixture list for 2021-22

.

“He is a very reliable player and that’s what we are looking for, as we have the youngest squad in Serie A, so we need some with more experience.”

Giroud

had extended his deal with

Chelsea

, but that was only to prevent him from joining another Premier League club as a free agent.

Giroud signed for Chelsea from

Arsenal

back in January 2018. He scored 90 goals in 255 Premier League appearances and has 39 goals to his name in 119 games for France.
