Inter terminate Joao Mario’s contract by mutual consent

Inter have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Joao Mario to terminate his contract.

This is confirmed by the club’s official site that an agreement has been reached with the Portuguese for the early termination of his deal.

The Nerazzurri have hoped to offload the Portuguese midfielder this summer, with his wages considered to be too high for a player not in the first team.

Mario

had transferred to

Inter Milan

from

Sporting Lisbon

in 2016.

The 28-year-old had one year left to his deal but an early exit makes sense for both sides. Inter had been planning to sell him to

Benfica

but a clause in his contract from Sporting CP prevented Mario from joining another Portuguese club.

Inter could not find a solution without paying a €30 million fine to Sporting. So they decided to release Mario from his contract. Now the player will be able to sign for Benfica as a free agent.

The Portuguese scored 4 goals and provided 13 assists in 69 games for the Serie A club.
