The former Real Madrid goalkeeper will return to Spain.

Leeds United

have announced that goalkeeper Kiko Casilla will join Elche on loan until the end of next season.

The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who earns £40k-a-week and has a contract with Leeds until 2023, played just five games after being suspended for racist insults to Charlton striker Jonathan Leko. Illan Meslier joined Leeds and was replaced in the starting line-up, with the Spanish goalkeeper losing his place. However, he also played handful of games for Leeds last season and was even named captain of the team against Hull City in the League Cup.

Having won the Champions League with Real Madrid, he joined Leeds in 2019 as a free agent and wanted to prove himself to Leeds fans. Despite a costly error in the semi-finals of the Championship play-offs, he remained in the starting line-up.

Now it seems that the time has come for him to leave and the Leeds club is considering a replacement for him. The Spanish goalkeeper will be on loan to Elche and will return to Leeds next summer for the final year of his contract.
