‘It worked against Germany’, says Trippier about tactical change

Kieran Trippier has been recalled to England starting line-up against Italy for the Euro 2020 Final and is hopeful that the change of formation will work again as it did against Germany.

“Unbelievable occasion, you can see the support from the fans coming into the stadium, they deserve it most importantly,”

Trippier told ITV Sport


“We wanted to play attractive football, good football throughout the tournament, we’re in the Final, one step closer and as soon as the whistle goes, we want to give everything.”

Southgate has largely opted for a 4-3-3 system during the tournament but moved to three at the back for the last-16 win against



This is the second time in the competition that Gareth Southgate has taken this approach.

“It worked against Germany. I just want to give the balance and try to create as much as we can. No matter what formation we play, if it’s a four or a three, the players will do a very good job,” continued Trippier.

“Like I said, it’s about the 26 players, not the 11 that are starting and the subs will be very important today.”

England starting XI

: Pickford, Shaw, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Trippier, Rice, Phillips, Mount, Kane, Sterling.

Italy starting XI

: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Emerson; Barella, Jorginho, Verratti; Chiesa, Immobile, Insigne.
