Sat 10 July 2021 | 15:30

Are you ready for another day of Off the Pitch with Sportmob? Which footballing legend said what online? Who will be featuring on the FIFA 22 cover? Did Chiellini believe in Mancini’s words? Follow us below to get your answers and see what happened in Euro 2020 day 29.

We are only a day away from the Euro 2020 final itself, which will be held at Wembley Stadium between England and Italy. While England got through to the final thanks to a number of controversial decisions in their favor against Denmark, Italy managed to defeat a resilient and maybe even stronger Spain in the penalty shootouts of their semifinal clash.

But since we have had a break from international football for a couple of days, what has been going on? Who has been talking to whom? Read on as we provide you with all the details you might want to know about everything that happened off the pith on day 29 of Euro 2020.

Euro 2020 – Day 29 Review

From Gary Lineker urging England supporters not to boo the Italy national anthem on Sunday, to Kylian Mbappe being revealed as the cover star of FIFA 22 and Giorgio Chiellini admitting that the Italy squad didn’t believe Mancini’s words when he claimed they would reach the final and win the trophy itself, much happened yesterday and we have got a lot to cover from day 29. So without further ado, here is everything you need to know.

Stop the boos

Former England striker and current football pundit Gary Lineker has urged

supporters to not boo during Italy’s national anthem. He went on to say: “If you’re lucky enough to get a ticket for the final, please, please don’t boo the Italian anthem. A) It’s an absolute belter and worth listening to. B) It’s bloody rude, disrespectful and utterly classless.” Lineker’s sudden urging didn’t come out of nowhere, as England fans had previously booed Germany’s national anthem while Prince William and his family were present at the stadium.

The rising star of FIFA

Kylian Mbappe

is set to feature on the cover of the FIFA videogame franchise for the second consecutive year. The France international first appeared on the cover of FIFA 21, and is now all ready to be the cover star of FIFA 22. The pictures have already been published and the PSG forward looks good.

It seems that the era of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo dominating the FIFA covers and world football with their immense abilities is long over, as the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are slowly but gradually taking over. It might take a bit of time to get used to the new order in town.

Have some faith

Italy captain

Giorgio Chiellini

has revealed that neither he nor any other player in Italy’s squad believed their manager Mancini when he claimed that they would be reaching the final of Euro 2020.

He claimed: “At first we thought Mancini was crazy when he told us that we should think about winning the Euros. Now we are only one step away. I expected to see us face France, they were the big favorites.” Italy will meet England in Euro 2020 final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday possibly one of the most epic battles in football history.

It’s all scare tactics

It seems that even though Neville and Lineker both have the same name and are from the same country, they have completely different views on the world and how everything works. While Lineker urged England supporters not to boo the Italy national anthem just like when they booed Germany, Gary Neville claimed on Twitter:

“When I played in the different countries and our National Anthem was booed, I always took it as the opposition fans trying to unsettle us, drown our fans out and never as some kind of attack on us people. Same when we did it [to] other teams. Is it really that bad and disrespectful?”
