It's too much - Koeman disagrees with Pedri’s Olympics inclusion

The Barcelona manager revealed that he is not pleased with Pedri going to this summer’s Olympics with Spain following a busy season for the youngster.

Pedri

made a 52-minute appearance for

Barcelona

in the 2020-21 season and then went to the Euros where he was playing regularly in

Spain

’s squad, who were defeated at the hands of Italy in the semi-finals.

The 18-year-old is heading to the Olympics with Spain but Ronald Koeman is not happy with that decision.

“For a player it is too much to do two competitions at the highest level in the summer. Pep Guardiola already said it and I agree. He has been in a season in which he has played almost everything and has also played every minute in the Eurocup. Having four holidays and traveling to Japan to play is not good. It is too much,”

he said.

“It is a personal opinion, but for me the Games are athletics and other sports, but not football. I say it on a personal level. I understand the dreams that the players have, but the calendars are very complicated and we must protect all the players.”

The Blaugrana have issued a complaint to the RFEF about including Pedri and asked if the player could be left at home. However, they were told that nothing can be done and the youngster will go to Tokyo.

Pedri, meanwhile, downplayed concerns over fatigue and burnout, stating that he is going to have enough time to rest and get prepared for the next La Liga season.
