We will prepare properly for Italy - Southgate

The English coach believes that his team will be well prepared for Sunday's match.

England

manager Gareth Southgate has claimed that his team is streetwise enough to compete with Italy.

Italy

coach Roberto Mancini has built a team that has not lost in its last 33 games and has performed very well so far in Euro 2020. On the other hand, England is trying to end their 55-year wait to win a major cup and reach its first title in half a century. The Three Lions reached the World Cup semi-finals three years ago but finished fourth in the competition with two defeats against Croatia and Belgium. Now Southgate has claimed that their team is streetwise enough to beat Italy.

He said:

“It is definitely a bit of a disadvantage but we have to find the best way of dealing with that.

“In terms of Italy, I think what Roberto (Mancini) has done and the way they’ve played the last couple of years, the record speaks for itself in terms of the wins, the small number of goals conceded. The style of play has been exceptional.

“But at the moment this group of players and group of staff who have been fantastic to lead, have crossed every challenge that's been put their way.

“So we'll prepare properly for Sunday, we’ll get the players recovered in the best possible way and we’ll be ready to go. We are there and we now have a wonderful opportunity.”
