Carlos Bacca terminates contract with Villarreal

Joining Villarreal in 2017 from Milan on a season-long loan that made permanent a season later, the mutual agreement puts an end to Bacca’s four-year spell at La Ceramica.

According to

Marca

, the Colombian forward has left

Villarreal

this Thursday after both parties agreed to terminate the player’s contract.

Struggling to earn a guaranteed starting spot, his prominence at La Ceramica faded with each passing year.

Starting only 9 La Liga games last term under

Unai Emery’s

reign, the 34-year-old has scored 5 goals as he came off the bench 14 times as well.

However, in search of guaranteed game time, the striker decided to part ways with the Europa League champions.

Congolese forward,

Cedric Bakambu

, is reportedly Villarreal’s primary target as Bacca’s replacement. After two and a half years at Villarreal, the 30-year-old forward joined the Chinese Side, Beijing Guoan, for a $44.00m fees in 2018.

Currently on mutual ownership with Villarreal, Bakambu is due to spend six more months in China but could be brought to La Liga early for the La Liga side’s upcoming season.
