‘It was unbelievable’ – Philips describes euphoria of beating Germany

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Philips opened up on England’s historical victory over Germany before their 4-0 victory over Ukraine in the quarter-finals.

The Three Lions reached the semi-finals of Euro 2020 with a fantastic performance against

Andriy Shevchenko

’s men at the Stadio Olimpico in Roma.

Philips, who has been present in every match for England at Euro 2020, was selected to start again for the match against Ukraine.

Previewing the match, Phillips described the euphoria of defeating Germany at Wembley.

“It was unbelievable. We knew it was a massive game for us,"

he told ITV Sport


"The performances, we’re doing so well in the tournament, and we wanted to keep that up by getting the win over Germany and luckily, we did that.

“It’s been a quick turnaround, but after a game, you probably take a day to have your celebrations or whatever and then after that you focus on the next game. This game tonight is going to be very important for us, we’re looking forward to it.

“We knew there were going to be a few here. We can see them dotted around the stadium. It’s a big stadium as well, so to hear them, yeah.

“It’s been very good, we’ve only had a short turnaround, but we’ve been training and recovering well. Everyone is ready for tonight.

“They’ve got very good players, they’ve done very well in this tournament and in the group stages as well. Yeah, we’re looking forward to how we get on tonight and hopefully, we can stop them doing what they can do.”
