Barcelona will try their best to get rid of Umtiti’s salary

With the summer addition of Eric Garcia from Manchester City, the Blaugrana have five centre-backs at their disposal, Ronald Araujo, Clement Lenglet, Gerard Pique, Oscar Mingueza, and Eric Garcia, which leaves the Frenchman on the transfer list.

With

Barca’s

current Covid-affected financial situation, a key part of their summer activity will be removing players that won’t be involved in their long-term plans. According to

Diario Sport

, they’re currently meeting with all agents offering exits or substantial salary reductions.

In the case of their French 27-year-old defender,

Samuel Umtiti

, they are reportedly trying to take both actions.

Being linked to Lyon and Marseille

, the Blaugrana put a €5m price tag for the 27-year-old centre-back. However, none of the clubs are eager to make the purchase as

Marseille

are said to doubt his physical condition.

However,

Lyon

are reportedly eager to take the Frenchman, who’s entering the final year of his Barca contract, on loan.

In other side, Umtiti has been clear that he wants to stay at Camp Nou as

he rejected a summer move to Anfield in January

. Hence, the player will reportedly honor a contract renewal with the Catalan giants before leaving the club on loan.

Barcelona want him to go to France or Italy, where he can play at a slower pace and find his form, while he will reportedly be offered a contract renewal before departing the club, reducing his salary.
