Netherlands striker misses the rest of Euro 2020 due to a knee injury

Wed 23 June 2021 | 11:20

The Dutch FA has officially announced that Luuk de Jong will miss the rest of Euro 2020 due to a knee injury.

De Jong suffered an injury in training earlier this week and further examination revealed that frank de Boer would no longer be able to call on his services.

The Dutch FA announced in an official statement:

"Luuk de Jong is forced to leave the training camp of the Dutch national team

"The Sevilla striker injured the inner tube of the knee during training on Tuesday. As a result, the 38-time international can no longer play for the Orange this European Championship."

De Jong only played ten minutes in Euro 2020 against Austria, but he could have been one of De Boer's key players in the knockout stages.

De Jong's injury was disappointing for the Dutch national team, as Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek had previously missed the tournament due to a knee injury.
