Netherlands vs. North Macedonia match preview

The Netherlands

have been one of the best teams of Euro 2020 so far. They finished off both their opponents, Ukraine and Austria and have been playing their usual attacking football. They were the first team to qualify for the knock-out stages and can rest some of their best players in today's game against North Macedonia.

For North Macedonia, any result is considered positive since it is their first ever participation in a big international event. In the qualifiers, they finished third behind Poland and Austria, but reached the tournament via the Europa Nations League and after winning their play-off game against Georgia. They have lost both of their games so far, 2-1 against Ukraine and 3-1 against Austria, but in both of those games, they were on the verge of getting a draw until they conceded goals in the final minutes of the games.

Netherlands

Netherlands qualified for Euro 2020 comfortably, but then their coach, Ronald Koeman left the national team to join his dream club, Barcelona. Frank De Boer replaced Koeman and at first was not successful in continuing his processor's work. The Oranges were poor in their few games before the start of the tournament, but since the start of Euro 2020, They have shown their quality and collective harmony with some of the best performances of this year's event.

Barcelona's midfielder,

Memphis Depay announced his transfer to Barcelona yesterday and all eyes will be on him to show what he can bring to the Camp Nue next year.

In the pre-match press conference, Netherlands manager, Frank De Boer praised North Macedonians, and especially their talisman Guran Pandev for their impressive performances in the tournament.

North Macedonia really deserve to be here. They have done very well, they are well organised. And then you have this sly fox Pandev who really makes the difference. It's great to see he still enjoys playing and can be important for his country.

North Macedonia

North Macedonia

remains the happiest team of the tournament although they have lost both of their games so far. They are experiencing a fairy-tale since it is their first ever participation in a major tournament. They are hungry to show their quality in the biggest stage of European football and almost forced Austria and Ukraine into a draws in their first two games. They put on brave performances in both of those games and scored two historic goals as well, their first ever ones in the European Championship finals.

Macedonia's evergreen veteran striker and captain, Guran Pandev is the team's key player. The 37-years old Genoa forward guided his country to the tournament and scored their first ever goal in the European Championship history in the game against Austria.

Netherlands vs. North Macedonia - Head-to-head in all competitions

Netherlands have a good record against North Macedonia and have won two out of four games played between the two teams. The other Two games have ended in a draw.

The previous meeting between the two teams took place in 2009 and ended in a comfortable 4-0 victory for Netherlands. North Macedonia have improved over the years and will be hoping to register their first ever win against the Netherlands.

Prediction

A draw in today's game will be historic for North Macedonia, while Netherlands might take the game lightly as they have reached the knock-out stage as the leaders of the group. Netherlands are considered as the favorites to win the game. However, North Macedonia is no easy rival and their physical approach can make it very hard for Netherlands. Our guess is a win by two goals margin for the Netherlands.
