Locatelli hopes Marco Verratti returns to Italy squad soon

Thu 17 June 2021 | 6:17

Manuel Locatelli is grateful to all his Italy teammates and wants to share his Man of the Match award with them and prays that Marco Verratti would get well soon and play again.

The

Sassuolo

midfielder performed well when

Italy

hosted

Switzerland

at the Stadio Olimpico.

Locatelli

scored two goals. An additional goal from

Ciro Immobile

made

Italy win with a score of 3-0 over Switzerland

and book their place in the knockout stages of Euro 2020.

“I have to share this award with the whole team,”

23-year-old Locatelli told RAI Sport

.

“I am one of the youngest here, they welcomed me so well and it’s wonderful to be here with them.”

Locatelli

is only in Italy's starting XI because

Paris Saint-Germain

midfielder

Marco Verratti

is not fit enough to play. However, the former

AC Milan

player actually hopes that Verratti returns soon.

“I think we are a wonderful group of lads and really hope Marco can be back soon, because he is such a talented player who can make the difference.

“The coach has to make his choices, all we can do is be ready when called upon.”

Meanwhile, regarding the last match against

Wales

, Locatelli did not want to let his guard down. Although Italy has secured a place for the Round of 16, the midfielder wants Italy to continue the good form.

“Let’s continue like this.”
