Austria win their first-ever game at the European Championships after beating North Macedonia 3-1.
This is the first time North Macedonia have ever passed for a major tournament, after beating Georgia 1-0 in their play-off to confirm their place in the competition. Austria ranked second in their qualifying group, just above North Macedonia, but have struggled at the Euros. They've never won a game in the tournament in six attempts.
Austria took control of the game and got their opening goal in the 18th minute. A magnificent cross from Sabitzer on the left, and Lainer put himself perfectly around the back of North Macedonia's defense.
North Macedonia had dropped deep into their own half, and they're happy to let Austria keep possession in front of them.
Just 10 minutes later, North Macedonia equalised. A quick touch from Trajkovski to get it back to Pandev under pressure from Bachmann and set up Pandev for the goal.
In the 78th minute, Austria lead again. An incredible cross in from Real Madrid's Alaba on the left, and Gregoritsch make it to the goal with a simple knock.
Austria made it certain in the 89th minute. Shanghai Port striker Arnautovic took advantage of the North Macedonia defenders' disarray to score Austria's third goal.
Austria got the first 3 points in Group C, with Netherlands and Ukraine face each other in the late. Next up for them is the favorites in the group, Netherlands. There are many positives for North Macedonia to take out of this game as they prepare for Ukraine on Thursday.
