Tottenham in talks with former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca

Wed 09 June 2021 | 23:03

Tottenham are in advanced talks with former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca to announce him as their new head coach.

Spurs

have been on the hunt for a new man at the helm since the departure of

Jose Mourinho

in April, and it seems

Daniel Levy

has finally found his man.

Former

Roma

manager

Paulo Fonseca

is understood to be the first choice of incoming sporting director

Fabio Paratici

and talks have been held.

Paratici’s arrival at Spurs is set to be announced in the coming days following his departure from

Juventus

after a successful 11-year stint and he is already involved in his new club’s lengthy managerial search.

As first reported by Sky in Italy, the Portuguese is expected to sign a three-year deal but nothing has been agreed yet between the two parties.

The North London club have turned to

Fonseca

after their plans to appoint

Antonio Conte

as Jose Mourinho's replacement collapsed last week following a breakdown in negotiations with the Italian.

The club also courted

Paris Saint-Germain

boss

Mauricio Pochettino

a year and a half after his sacking but were unable to get him out of his current club.

The former

Porto

,

Braga

, and

Shakhtar Donetsk

head coach is out of a job after two years at the Stadio Olimpico, where he failed to get the club back in the Champions League, delivering finishes of fifth and seventh in Serie A.

He was much more successful with Shakhtar, winning three successive doubles, while also securing silverware with Braga and Porto.

He brought Roma to the Europa League semi-finals this year after beating former sides

Braga

and

Shakhtar Donetsk

as well as

Ajax

but eventually lost out to

Manchester United

.
