The Belgium national team coach hopes that the star will return to full fitness for the Euro 2020.

Eden Hazard

did not have any luck at

Real Madrid

but insists that the winger plays a crucial role for Belgium.

The Belgium international has tried hard to deliver the expectations at Real Madrid since joining from Chelsea with a transfer fee of €100 million (£86m/$121m) in 2019.

The 30-year-old endured another disappointing season in 2020-21 due to injuries that prevented him from making contributions, but Martinez is confident he can return to his best form for the European Championships.

The Belgium manager thinks Hazard has had a lot of misfortunes at Real and likes to see him enjoy football again in the summer.

There is little talk of the luck factor in football, and so far he has not had it in Madrid, "

Martinez told

La Vanguardia

"There he cannot be valued because he has not been on the field. Before, at Chelsea, he had never been injured.

"For us, he is an essential player, he is the captain, a symbol, and I hope that mixed with the environment we have he will be able to change his luck and smile again on the field.

"Because when Eden has fun, his football makes a difference and it is what we are all waiting for."

Hazard missed about 60 matches during his first two seasons due to injury setbacks, with 32 of them being during the latest campaign.

He has only featured in 43 games for Real Madrid and met the target only five times, providing eight assists.

The 30-year-old has always been known for his consistency for his country, with his debut being at 17 in 2008. He has represented his country 107 times, netting 32 goals.
