Koeman will stay at Barcelona

The Blaugrana confirmed that Ronald Koeman will remain their coach for the next campaign.

Ronald Koeman

’s future at

Barcelona

was uncertain as

Joan Laporta

, the club president, was not convinced that the Dutchman was who they needed to lead the club forward.

Koeman started his reign at Camp Nou in a tough situation, following a thumping 8-2 defeat by

Bayern Munich

in the Champions League and before Lionel Messi was trying to depart Barca. The 58-year-old stabilized the club’s situation and led them to the Copa del Rey victory.

However, having been defeated at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and failing to grab the La Liga title have sparked doubts for his continuity.

Koeman has a year left on his deal and Laporta pronounced that they will stick with him for the next campaign.

"

After this period of reflection, vice-president Rafael Yuste and myself have agreed that we will continue with the current contract that Ronald Koeman has,”

Laporta said.

"We are very pleased to see that these talks have borne fruit in a unity of judgment."

“I’m relieved to say that my players and staff can fully focus on the new season now,”

Koeman wrote

. “The last few weeks have been intense, but I’m glad that President Joan Laporta gave his support to me and calm has been restored. The focus of everyone at the club is the same; building a winning Barcelona and achieving success.”
