last summer on a £35 million contract, seeking a European glory with the Red Devils.

The promising young midfielder, however, found himself out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s favor ever since he stepped foot in Old Trafford, starting only four Premier League games.

The Dutch star was also said to be out of patience and ready to leave Manchester in the summer transfer window.

Rafael van der Vaart

, who began his career at Ajax's youth academy, has now urged his young compatriot to look for more playing time, saying the 24-year-old is “far too good to sit on the bench”.

He fit perfectly into the Ajax system, but he doesn’t fit at Manchester United,”

Van der Vaart told

"If nobody leaves United this summer, he will be lucky to get in the starting line-up.

"He is far too good to sit on the bench for two seasons. He needs minutes very quickly. He is still young, but time flies.

"A club like Borussia Dortmund would have been a better step for him. Manchester United might be a step too far for him."
