Gnabry wants a big role in Germany’s squad

Gnabry thinks that he can help Germany with the scoring problem.

Joachim Low

, who will part ways with

Germany

after Euro 2020, has called only two strikers in his squad, and this has made everyone think that he would use players from other positions in the central striker position.

Bayern Munich’s

Serge Gnabry

, who has been playing in wide positions, believes that he can be the answer to the team’s problems in scoring goals and says that he doesn’t have a problem with playing as a central striker.

"I don't know yet whether I'll play on the wing or in the middle,"

Gnabry said in a pre-game news conference

. "I haven't had a concrete conversation with the national coach.

"I'll do my best when I play in the center and imitate the striker. But we have so much potential on the offensive that it doesn't really matter who is up front."

He insists that although he is willing to help Joachim Low’s team in any position, people should understand that he is not a central striker like Haaland or Lewandowski, and no one should expect such performances from him.

"I'm not a [Robert] Lewandowski or [Erling] Haaland."

He has also talked about the players who have returned to the national team by Low’s decision saying that they are experienced leaders who can help the team in the path of glory. Muller is one of the players returning to the national team at the age of 31, and Hummels is another one returning to Germany’s squad at the age of 32.

"It's always good to have leaders on your team,"

Gnabry said

. "If we all pull together, we will be successful."

Germany’s 6-0 defeat against Spain last November in the Nations League generating a lot of criticizers for Joachim Low, but they managed to win their first World Cup qualifiers against Iceland and Romania, which can produce hopes for the team despite their defeat against North Macedonia.
