, their endeavors to bring the youngster to north London have been locked for months as they have faced a couple of significant obstacles.

Ahead of their return to the Champions League in 2021/22, Sporting don’t want to dismantle their league-winning squad. in addition, Tomas himself is not interested in pushing for a move to London with no European football on the table.

Finishing six points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League table, Mikel Arteta guided Arsenal to eighth this season as they were knocked out of the Europa League after losing to Unai Emery’s Villarreal in the semi-finals.

While Tomas has a deal until 2025 with Sporting that includes a release clause of £52 million, Arsenal were hoping to get the price down to around £20m due to the pandemic-related financial difficulties. However, Sporting’s successful season means they in a stronger economic position in negotiations about the 18-year-old’s signature.
