he said in comments carried byDiario Sport
Messi's current deal is due to expire at the end of next month, with the 33-year-old having remained atBarcelona
for the 2020-21 season despite seeking a summer exit last year.
The Argentinean has a far better relationship with Laporta, who has said that an offer is coming soon and he hopes that the forward will stay with the team.
“Before there was another president and now I’m here, and he likes that,”
“He was disappointed with the previous president, but now he has another president who wants him to continue at Barcelona, and I’ve shown him [that]. That’s what’s changed.
“Leo wants Barcelona to think big; when we talk about a competitive team, it’s not a cliche. It’s something that has to be demonstrated. He wants proven experience, and with me as president he knows he has that. That’s Leo’s perception.”
Lionel Messi has been offered a 10-year-deal by Barcelona split into three parts including an ambassadorial role during a spell in MLS. The Argentine is yet to respond to the offer.
