Benzema relaxed about Giroud reunion despite previous 'go-kart' spat

Tue 25 May 2021 | 11:58

Benzema and Giroud were involved in a verbal duel but Real star insists it’s all in the past.

After

Karim Benzema

was dropped from international duty due his alleged involvement in a sex-tape scandal,

Olivier Giroud

replaced him in France squad and won the 2018 World Cup with Les Bleus.

Real Madrid

star made news some time ago, commenting on Giroud’s capabilities and describing him as a 'go-kart'.

"You can't confuse an F1 car with a go-kart and I'm being kind,"

Benzema said.

Los Blancos star has now been called up for international duty after six years, as Didier Deschamps included Real striker in his squad for Euro 2020.

Thus, Benzema is set to reunite with his compatriot Giroud, whom he shared the 'go-kart' spat with. The France international, however, insists there are no hard feelings and his duel with Chelsea forward belongs to the past.

In an interview with

L'Equipe

, Benzema said:

“Of course. Olivier, I saw him during the Chelsea match. We spoke, it was relaxed. He congratulated me for my goal.

"It was good vibes, it was cool. I have already played with him, it will be the same as before.”
