Spanish national team coach Luis Enrique announced the 24-man squad for the summer competition on Monday, with the absence of the Real Madrid captain being the most controversial.
Ramos has missed most of the games in recent months due to injury and Covid-19 and has not been able to accompany his team. The Los Blancos star did not live up to expectations after returning to the field. Now in the list of 24 people that Luis Enrique announced today, he has been left out.
In addition, no Real Madrid players are on the list, the most important of them are Dani Carvajal, Marco Asensio and Isco. Manchester City defender Emerick Laporte, who recently changed his nationality from French to Spanish, is on the list.
Luis Enrique told reporters:
"It hasn't been easy to leave him out of the squad. I spoke to him on the phone last night, it was really difficult. It's a difficult decision. He hasn't had a good run of games since January."
