Maguire to miss Europa League final

Mon 24 May 2021 | 8:38

The English star will not have much chance to play in the Europa League final.

The presence of

Manchester United

captain Harry Maguire in the Europa League final match against Villarreal is still unknown.

The England defender, who suffered a knee ligament injury against Aston Villa, has been sidelined for the last few games and is expected to be ruled out of Wednesday's game by the Red Devils. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, while confirming the high probability of Maguire's absence, claimed that they will do their best to prepare the English star for Wednesday's match.

"I'll wait for Wednesday. Maybe see if he can run on Tuesday. He's a bit away so I don't expect him to be ready, no.

"Of course, Harry wants to play. It's going to be up to the doctor to say how he is. As I’ve said, I don’t expect him to be ready, but I’m forever an optimist and still hopeful.

"He has to train on Tuesday when we’re over there. So it’s not many days. I don’t expect him to be ready."

United, runners-up in the Premier League, are trying to win the Europa League with a victory over Villarreal and not end the season without a trophy. On the other hand, Villarreal, which did not win the qualification to European competitions, considers the only way to participate in the Champions League to be winning the Europa League final, and therefore, this match will be special.
