Atletico won their eleventh La Liga title, their first since 2013, after they survived the final round with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against Real Valladolid on Saturday.
The former Barcelona striker, Luis Suarez, snatched Atletico a 2-1 win away at Real Valladolid to hand his side the title after a heated title race that involved Atletico, Barcelona, and Real Madrid.
However, La Blaugrana’s title hopes were ended by defeat against Celta Vigo last weekend as they fell seven points behind the league leaders.
Barcelona’s head coach, Ronald Koeman, told a press conference after his side’s victory over Eibar: “Atletico deserved to win the championship.
“They have been leaders for a long time, they have a very well-made squad.
“They were a little better than Real Madrid and Barcelona. We have made changes at the club and that success is not achieved in one season.
“Because of the changes made, we deserve to have more time here.”
On his side’s depth and his goals for the next season, the dutchman continued: “When we arrived we took the template that was available.
"[Sergino] Dest only came on the last day. For me this squad is not made to have the level that it demands and that we want for Barcelona.
"There are older players with all due respect. And there are young players who have to gain more experience to be better. The project is not done, in one season you can not do everything,"
On his future as the Barca head coach, Koeman said: "I have a contract and I don't know what we will do. You talk a lot about this topic, but I am calm.
"If there is something that the club wants to change, it has to talk to me."
Signing off on a positive note with victory over Eibar, Barcelona will short of their best once again as the future of their skipper, Lionel Messi, is in doubt.
However, the Dutchman remains positive, he continued: "We are Barca. We have played a game that has not been brilliant, without opportunities. We have not created danger.
"I have to highlight the energy that the team has put into a difficult moment, because we have been losing points for two or three weeks and the last days have not been calm.
"We must highlight the professionalism of this team to win today's game."
