‘He will play here one day’, Sporting president on Ronaldo's return

Sat 22 May 2021 | 19:47

Sporting president Frederico Varandas believes that 36-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo will one day return to play for the club he started his career with.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s departure is very likely if

Juventus

fail to secure Champions League qualification and a return to his training club Sporting has been mooted recently.

And

Frederico Varandas

is convinced that the striker will one day make a return to

Sporting

, newly crowned Portuguese champions.

However, the striker’s agent

Jorge Mendes

has denied all rumors linking the Portugal captain with a possible return to the Verde e Brancos, even if Ronaldo enters the last year of his contract with Juventus and the rumors of a future elsewhere continue.

Asked whether Ronaldo will head back to Lisbon at some stage, Sporting president Varandas told

Sic Noticias

:<em>

"I think he will play here one day.

"Cristiano was among the first to send me a message to congratulate us for the championship victory.

"Now, however, he has another year on his contract with Juve and I know he wants to continue competing to win the Champions League.

"Obviously his return here depends on him: in addition to being a great player, Cristiano is a great fan of Sporting."
