Francesc Arnau, a former goalie for Barcelona and Malaga as well as the sporting director of Real Oviedo, passed away on Saturday; according to Diario AS.
Arnau has been with the Asturian club since 2019 and had previously worked with
Arnau, a Spanish U21 international, came through Barcelona's youth system and spent three seasons with the Blaugrana between 1998 and 2001. He then went to Malaga, where he stayed for ten years. He spent time coaching at the club after hanging up his boots.
Arnau took over as director of sports of Oviedo in December 2019, succeeding Joaquin del Olmo and Michu. Last month, he was linked with a comeback to Barcelona, with his name being listed as a potential contender to join Joan Laporta's squad.
The match between Oviedo and Mirandes, which was scheduled to end the season tomorrow, has been postponed due to the news and will now be played on Monday evening. In addition, all games featuring Oviedo's youth teams have been halted.
